Server Hardware Upgrade Time, Plus New Servers!

In order to provide the best server possible I have been putting together some pennies to upgrade some of the core components of the server. The previous server was as follows:

  • Dual Core Intel CPU @ 4.0GHz
  • 8GB DDR3 1333MHz RAM
  • 128GB SATA3 SSD  (500MB/s Read, 320MB/s Write)

I have bought and installed a bunch of new hardware so we are now running on:

  • Octo Core (8) i7 Intel CPU @ 4.2GHz (Liquid Cooled)
  • 16GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM
  • 128GB SATA3 SSD (525MB/s Read, 500MB/s Write)

I have purchased a years subscription to the rather excellent 7 Days to Die Cloud Based Server Manager which will both help us admin the server but will also bring us a selection of new features of which we will roll out in the forthcoming weeks.

For those of you who read the blog entries you will see we are geared up ready to bring a completely unique experience for when A13 drops, bringing a massive list of Recipes/Prefabs/Mods and more, and a lot of content we have made ourselves which won't have been seen anywhere else.

Finally, the server hardware upgrade will allow us to host multiple servers at once from the same box. To begin with will be adding a locked down second server which the admins will use to test out new mods/prefabs and configurations so it will not affect the live server.  Then when we are satisfied we can roll out these changes to the live server.

We are toying with the idea of a third whitelisted only server which would be set with creative mode on, allowing our players to create their own awesome prefabs and the likes.  The idea for this is so that our players can collaborate on making new prefabs, and when finished our server admins can export them and add them to our prefab arsenal, so that they then spawn in the live server world. If you are interested in this please leave a comment or speak to an admin.

  1. We need to get a test server ready and setup to preview the map for A13 and get some players on it to get an idea on performance and play-ability.

(i want to see the map in all its glory at more than 20fps without having to host the game and stream to show it off!!)
